|
September 10, 2004 Contacts: Meg Delorier, 978-772-6340 or mdelorier@massdevelopment.com Janet Hookailo, 617-330-2018 or jhookailo@massdevelopment.com MassDevelopment President/CEO Robert Culver today joined State Representative Jamie Eldridge, State Representative Robert Hargraves, State Senator Pamela Resor, Senator Kerry's senior policy advisor Mark Sternman and Army Chaplain Frank Wismer at a memorial service to commemorate those who perished in the September 11th terrorist attacks. The event was held on Rogers Field at Devens, and featured remarks by Chaplain Wismer, a Marine flag detail and a ceremonial bell tolling by the Devens Fire Department. Nearly 150 residents, firefighters, police officers, military personnel, students and members of the Devens business community were on hand to pay their respects. "Today is an opportunity to come together once again, as we did in those uncertain hours immediately after the twin towers collapsed, the Pentagon shook, and United flight 93 plummeted into a field outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania," said Culver. "A day to reaffirm our commitment to freedom and deny terrorists their victory by continuing to live as free people in a just society." Wismer, who recently returned from Iraq, spoke about America's new role in the global community, and of his experience serving alongside our servicemen and women in Iraq. Hargraves, Resor, Sternman and Eldridge also offered comments. |
