MassDevelopment, the Commonwealth's economic development authority, today announced the provision of a financing package for Stevens-Children's Home, Inc. in Swansea. The human service provider will use a $1.3 million tax-exempt bond to renovate and expand two residential buildings, upgrade the school campus' electrical system and replace the heating system in the campus' main building.

"We are pleased to partner with Stevens-Children's Home for this important expansion initiative," said Robert L. Culver, MassDevelopment President/CEO. "This organization provides an invaluable service to many young people in Massachusetts as they work to meet life's challenges and enter the workforce as contributing members of society."

Established in 1979, the Stevens-Children's Home provides residential and treatment services for adolescents who are emotionally disturbed or behaviorally disordered. Since its inception, the organization has helped hundreds of children overcome serious problems through their highly individualized education and treatment programs.

"Thanks to the MassDevelopment team for arranging this competitive financing package," said Thomas Drooger, Stevens-Children's Home executive director. "These campus-wide improvements will enable our staff to provide an even greater level of service to the young adolescents we serve."

MassDevelopment, the state's finance and economic development agent, partners with businesses and local officials to stimulate growth across the Commonwealth. In fiscal year 2004, the agency arranged financing for, or managed 201 projects statewide totaling more than $1.25 billion. These projects supported the creation of more than 5,500 jobs and 2,445 housing starts.
