Wentworth Institute of Technology has secured a $50 million tax-exempt bond to build a new athletic complex on the Parker Street end of its Boston campus.

The bond, issued by MassDevelopment and announced Wednesday, will allow Wentworth to build playing fields atop a 330-space parking area that’ll sit largely below street level. The funds will also go toward building two athletics support buildings and restoring the exteriors of two other buildings on campus.

Wentworth plans to make the athletics facility accessible to the broader community including youth athletic programs and activities for seniors.

Wentworth also landed a state bond in 2017 worth $41 million to build its Center for Engineering, Innovation and Sciences, or CEIS, on Parker Street. That building opened in 2019. A $70 million bond was issued in 2013 to build a 71-unit apartment building on campus and refinance debt.
