Job Summary:

MassDevelopment is accepting applications for an Investment Analyst - Emerging Technology Fund (ETF) in our Lending department within the Finance Programs division. This position will be a hybrid model, with a combination of remote work and in-office work in our Boston office.

Under the general direction of the Senior Vice President - ETF, the Investment Analyst - ETF provides support in the form of due diligence, analysis and research functions concerning senior secured and subordinated debt loan applications, as well as early stage equity investments. The position will provide independent analytical and administrative support, including preparing investment proposals for internal review and submission to appropriate approval committees, fund performance reports and portfolio updates.  

Essential Functions: 

  • Analyze business plans, proforma financials and debt capacity of ETF applicants, and make recommendations to VP.
  • Prepare first draft of loan and investment approval requests for review by VP and SVP.
  • Conduct quarterly and annual reviews of portfolio companies.
  • Prepare quarterly reports for Advisory Committee and legislature.
  • Calculate returns on the Fund and individual loans/investments using various methodologies.
  • Provide industry and market analysis to evaluate potential loan investments.
  • Follow up on financial reporting and job reporting for portfolio companies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or finance.
  • 3 years experience in any of the following fields: commercial banking, private equity, venture capital.
  • Or combination of education and experience.
  • Strong time-management skills, with proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, as needed.
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Bilingual a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA.
  • Debt and/or equity investment experience. 
  • Commercial lending experience.
