Construction underway on 53-unit housing development at Village Hill

Construction has started on a mixed-income housing development at Village Hill.

North Commons, developed by The Community Builders, is a new development at Village Hill, a property that housed a state mental hospital until the 1990s and has been redeveloped into a neighborhood of housing and commercial spaces.

The development will include 53 units of rental housing, 12 of which will be for those earning 30% of the area median income or lower, and 27 of which will be for those with 60 percent of the area median income or lower.

The parcel the development is being built on was officially sold to The Community Builders in September and construction is expected to be complete by 2022, according to MassDevelopment.
