Online fundraiser looking to support public art in Malden

Local residents have a chance to support a community organization’s plan to undertake a public arts initiative in Malden.

Malden Arts is joining with MassDevelopment on a fund drive to create the Malden ARTLine, a “public art gallery” which when fully developed would feature murals, sculptures, and pocket parks at “hubs” situated alongside Malden’s section of the Northern Strand Community Trail, an evolving inter-community recreational path.

The fund drive is to support the first phase of ArtLine, which calls for a hub at the intersection of Ferry and Center streets.

Malden Arts is a volunteer nonprofit that works to celebrate the arts in Malden. The fund drive is being carried out through the civic crowdfunding platform Patronicity.

If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $27,000 by Thursday, June 28, at midnight, the project will receive a $27,000 matching grant from MassDevelopment through its Commonwealth Places program, according to Sharon Santillo, a board member of Malden Arts.

She said ArtLine, if realized, would bring people from throughout the region to Malden, helping support the city’s local economy. For more information or to donate, go to www.patronicity.com/ArtLine.
