Former Wilson’s, Greenfield

The former Wilson’s Department Store was originally constructed in downtown Greenfield in 1882. The store shut down operations in 2019 and the prominent property sat vacant in the center of downtown.  In 2022, MassDevelopment acquired the former Wilson’s Department Store in Greenfield, in partnership with The Community Builders, Franklin Community Co-op, and the City of Greenfield to facilitate its redevelopment into 65 units of mixed-income housing with a full-service grocery store on the ground floor. In addition to the housing units, the project is anticipated to create approximately 100 jobs. The redevelopment of the property will help revitalize the area and create a vibrant, walkable downtown.

 OPEN FOR BUSINESS!

As many Greenfield residents know, the first floor space is currently partially occupied by three cherished Greenfield businesses: Cleary Jewelers, Hens & Chicks Consignment, and Lucky Bird Thrift. MassDevelopment, TCB, and FCC know how vital these tenants are to the fabric of downtown Greenfield and are committed to working with the businesses to ensure they have the ability to continue serving the Greenfield community when construction at the property begins in late 2023/ early 2024.

As the development plans are finalized all three shops remain open for business in their current locations. Please continue to visit and support these women-owned small businesses. Any updates on the growth and relocation of these three small businesses will be shared as it becomes available.
