New Bedford State Pier

The New Bedford State Pier is located at the heart of New Bedford’s waterfront, providing a hub for marine commerce and passenger ferry activity across the eight-acre property. Owned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts through its Department of Conservation & Recreation, the property has been managed and operated by MassDevelopment since 2017.

MassDevelopment strives to maximize the property’s utilization around activities that support both the property and its local and regional context, along with the broader economic development outcome that such a dynamic asset creates. With current users including the seasonal passenger ferries to the islands of Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and Cuttyhunk, international cargo bound for U.S. and Canadian markets, commercial fishing berthing, offloading and gear storage, marine refueling, related law enforcement, and the home of the Commonwealth’s historic schooner the Ernestina Morrisey, the property is diverse, well utilized, and always open to new ideas.
